Whether you seek to acquire new skills for professional registration, upskill in your current field, or gain valuable knowledge for your overseas career, the Training Visa offers a practical learning experience.

The Potential of 407 Visa

The Australian Training Visa (Subclass 407) provides a unique opportunity for international individuals to gain valuable skills and experience in Australia. This temporary visa allows you to participate in various occupational training programs, enhancing your professional development and career prospects.

The Training Visa caters to a diverse range of needs:

  • Occupational training required for registration: To be eligible for occupational registration, membership, or licensing, it is necessary to undergo workplace-based training. This accreditation is essential for working in the relevant occupation in either Australia or your native country.
  • Occupational training to improve skills in an eligible occupation: Structured training programs in the workplace that are customized and scheduled based on the specific training requirements of the individual nominated, aligned with a specific occupation on the list of eligible skilled occupations, and involve a nominee with relevant recent experience. This experience could be through previous employment or studies, equivalent to at least 12 months of full-time experience in the occupation within the 24 months preceding the nomination submission.
  • Occupational training for capacity building overseas: Overseas training for developing skills in the workplace involves:
    • Overseas Qualifications: Structured on-the-job training in Australia is available for a maximum of 6 months to students who are currently registered at an international educational institution. This practical training, research, or observation period is necessary for obtaining their qualification and will be customized to meet the individual's training requirements.
    • Government-Supported Training: Workplace-based occupational training with backing from a government agency either in Australia or the trainee's home country. The support from an Australian government agency should be at national or state/territory level, while the support from the trainee's home country must be at national, state/territory, or provincial level. Additionally, the training program needs to be customized and scheduled according to the specific training requirements of the individual being nominated.
    • Professional Development Programs: Professional development programs for in-person teaching in a classroom or comparable setting within Australia. These are designed for international employers to send their managerial or professional staff members.

The Training Visa offers a pathway for international individuals to gain valuable knowledge and skills in Australia, making them more competitive in the global job market.

Eligibility Criteria

1. For Applicants

The Australian Training Visa offers a pathway for international individuals to develop their skills, but certain criteria must be met:

  • Generally, applicants must be 18 years or older (exceptions may apply).
  • Sponsorship is mandatory, either from an approved training organization for occupational training or from your employer for professional development programs.
  • For occupational training, a nomination for an approved occupation by an Australian organization is typically required (unless sponsored by a Commonwealth agency).
  • The training must be received directly from the sponsor, with some exceptions.
  • The chosen training program must align with a valid nomination eligibility type.
  • Functional English skills are necessary to effectively participate in the training and comply with occupational health and safety standards.
  • You must demonstrate a genuine intent to stay in Australia temporarily for the duration of your training.
  • Meeting health and character requirements is mandatory.
  • Sufficient financial resources and health insurance arrangements are necessary for yourself and any accompanying family members.
  • Additional requirements specific to your chosen training program may apply.

2. For Sponsors

  • Sponsors can be lawfully operating Australian organizations, government agencies (domestic or foreign), or foreign government agencies.
  • In most cases, sponsors must directly provide occupational training to the visa holder. Exceptions may apply under special circumstances.
  • Sponsors must maintain a good record, free from any unfavorable information that could raise concerns with the Department of Immigration.
  • Sponsors have a responsibility to comply with all the conditions and obligations associated with the Training Visa program.

3. For Nominators

  • Holders of a valid "approved temporary activity sponsor" status can nominate individuals for the Training Visa.
  • Organizations that have applied for but not yet received "approved temporary activity sponsor" status can still nominate individuals. However, the nomination will only be considered once their sponsorship is officially approved.

Fulfilling these criteria is crucial for a successful Training Visa application. Partnering with our immigration expert can help ensure you meet all the necessary requirements and navigate the application process smoothly.

Bringing Your Family on Your Australian Training Visa Journey (Subclass 407)

The Australian Training Visa (Subclass 407) allows you to focus on honing your skills while offering the option to include your family for added support. Here's who can join you:

  • Your Partner: Spouses and de facto partners can accompany you on your training adventure in Australia.
  • Dependent Children: Both your dependent children and your partner's dependent children (up to 23 years old) are eligible for inclusion in your visa application.

1. Building a Strong Case:

To successfully include your family members, you'll need to provide:

  • Proof of Relationship: Documentation to verify your marital status or de facto relationship.
  • Sponsor Approval: A written statement confirming your sponsor's approval to extend sponsorship to your accompanying family members.

2. Financial Requirements

You must demonstrate your financial ability to sustain yourself and any accompanying family members for the duration of your stay in Australia.

Health and Character Requirements

The Australian Training Visa (Subclass 407) ensures a safe and secure environment for both participants and the community. To that end, health and character requirements are part of the application process.

You and your accompanying family members must undergo medical examinations within a year of applying for the visa. Additionally, police clearances are mandatory from any country where you (and your family) have resided for 12 months or more in the past decade.

Financial responsibility is also important. You must be free from any outstanding debts to the Australian Government before your visa is granted.

To ensure you and your family are covered for medical needs during your stay, you'll need to have health insurance. This can be through Australia's national health scheme (Medicare) if your home country has a reciprocal health agreement with Australia, or through private health insurance from an Australian or overseas provider.
